It’s a busy time in the world of ‘O’ for both Carolina and me.
Carolina is currently working on ‘Treasure Island’ for the National Theatre. She’s there as Movement Director and Polly Finlay is directing. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, particularly if Carolina gets to do all the things that she’s dreaming up for it!
She also had a small part playing the Queen of France to Alan Rickman’s Louis XIV in a film called ‘A little chaos’, directed by Rickman himself. The film is currently doing the rounds of the festival circuit.
I’ve just been working on a production of ‘The Cherry Orchard’ with Katie Mitchell – it’s playing at the Young Vic and is a very different and exciting reading of the play.
Katie and I are teaming up again to make a new opera based on Oliver Jeffers’ ‘The Way Back Home’ – it’s an English National Opera production that’s going to be playing at the Young Vic for Christmas. It’s been composed by Joanna Lee with a libretto by Rory Mullarkey. It’s going to be a lot of fun and quite insane to make I think!
‘The Man Jesus’ is a show that I directed at the beginning of 2013 – written by Matthew Hurt (who made ‘The Secret Agent’ with us) and starring Simon Callow. The show was originally a production at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, but has been successfully touring the UK for the last 8 weeks or so – the tour finally finishes in Oxford next week. The show’s been getting some great reviews (here and here for example) and will hopefully have a future life…
We’re also moving things froward with our two new ‘O’ shows, which will go into development at the beginning of next year. More on that soon, but we’re very excited about how they’re shaping up.
In the meantime it’s back into the rehearsal room to make some great shows for Christmas!
Spread the word!
